Have you ever noticed that you feel drained around certain people?
Do you find that your behaviour subtly changes depending on who you’re with? And sometimes it feels like you are almost mirroring their mood, energy, or emotional state?
Do you feel a need to spend time alone, which is not a preference, but a genuine requirement to reset? And if there were an express turbo eject button from some social situations… you’d probably use it.
Have you noticed that the way you feel when you’re alone can be very different from how you feel around other people?
If any of this resonates, I see you.
This has been part of my life for as long as I can remember, and for many years, I had no language for what was happening.
In a world that often values toughness, speed, and constant output, sensitivity can be misunderstood.
Sensitivity is often associated with the feminine, and not as a gendered trait, but as a quality of receptivity, intuition, and attunement. In cultures that prioritise doing over being, this way of perceiving the world is frequently overlooked or undervalued.
But sensitivity is not a weakness. It is a form of perception.
Being sensitive means you can discern subtle shifts within yourself, in other people, environments, and emotional undercurrents. You notice what others might miss. You feel what isn’t always spoken.
When this sensitivity isn’t understood or supported, it can feel overwhelming. When it is recognised, grounded, and respected, it becomes a strength.
Empaths are people who naturally sense and absorb the emotional or energetic states of others. This doesn’t mean you are fragile, dramatic, or have a lack of boundaries. It means you are highly receptive.
Empaths often feel deeply, care deeply, and connect easily. They may unconsciously take on emotions or energy that doesn’t belong to them, especially in busy or emotionally charged environments.
Many empaths are drawn to healing paths such as energy work, Reiki, or other forms of energy healing, often before they even realise why.
You might be sensitive to energy if you recognise several of the following:
None of these are signs that something is wrong with you. They are signs of a sensitive and perceptive system.
Without awareness, sensitivity can feel like a burden.
With awareness, it becomes information.
Practices such as energy healing, Reiki, and grounded energy work help sensitive people learn how to stay present in their own system, rather than constantly tuning into everyone else’s.
This isn’t about shutting down or becoming less caring. It’s about learning energetic boundaries and knowing what is yours and what isn’t.
For much of my life, I thought something needed fixing. I didn’t realise that my sensitivity was actually guiding me toward deeper self-awareness and, eventually, healing work.
Through meditation and years of working with energy, I learned how to stay connected to myself, how to stay grounded, how to protect my energy and keep it for myself, while still being open to others.
That change was life‑altering.
If you recognise yourself in this blog, nothing has gone wrong.
Your system may simply be asking for support, grounding, and understanding.
Sensitivity, when met with care, becomes wisdom and superpower.
